The Internet We Could Have Had.
Christopher Kelty (UCLA). Can we remember a future that did not come to pass? Kelty's new book revisits peer-to-peer networks, net neutrality, free and open source software, and the lulz of Anonymous. Not as nostalgia, but as a reckoning with the internet we do have.
//Why this one
We ship software. This is about what shipped software does.
The Sprint Lab spends its year building production software for real partners. Kelty spends his looking at what the last thirty years of that work actually built: the networks we kept, the ones we lost, and the arguments we stopped having. The Lab is co-hosting with Notre Dame Anthropology and Notre Dame Computer Science and Engineering. Come argue with us.
